Venue: Supreme Court of Azerbaijan Republic

The participating teams in the Azerbaijan National Rounds of the 2025 Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition were ADA University, Baku State University and Nakhchivan State University. Each team pleaded four time – twice as Applicant and twice as Respondent, resulting in six matches.

The champion of the National Round was determined based on overall wins. As a result, the ADA team, securing four wins, emerged as the champion of the Azerbaijan National Rounds. Baku State University placed second with two wins and two losses, while Nakhchivan State University completed the rounds without a win. 

The final rankings, based on win-loss records, raw points, and round points, were as follows:

  1. ADA University – 4 wins, 0 losses, 3076.2 raw points, 29 round points

  2. Baku State University – 2 wins, 2 losses, 3014.4 raw points, 19 round points

  3. Nakhchivan State University – 0 wins, 4 losses, 2417 raw points, 6 round points

In addition to their strong oral advocacy, teams were evaluated on their written memorials. The Final Memorial Rankings were as follows:

  1. ADA University – Total: 157.2 (Applicant: 81.4 / Respondent: 75.8)

  2. Nakhchivan State University – Total: 155.0 (Applicant: 72.5 / Respondent: 82.5)

  3. Baku State University – Total: 152.9 (Applicant: 78.5 / Respondent: 74.4)

Post International Rounds

In 2025, Azerbaijan was represented at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition by two universities for the first time in its national history: ADA University, as the national champion, and Baku State University.

A total of 152 teams participated in the International Rounds.

ADA University achieved remarkable results:

  • Advanced to the Advanced Rounds, marking another historic milestone;

  • Achieved 3 wins out of 4 rounds in the Preliminary Rounds;

  • Ranked 43rd overall with 2973.2 raw points and a strength of schedule score of 18.5;

  • Placed 58th globally in the Memorial Rankings with a combined score of 169.2 (Applicant: 88 / Respondent: 81.2).

Baku State University also performed notably at the International Rounds:

  • Achieved 3 wins out of 4 rounds;

  • Ranked 57th in the Preliminary Rounds with 2853.6 raw points and a strength of schedule score of 27.5;

  • Placed 136th in the Memorial Rankings with a combined score of 150.6 (Applicant: 76.2 / Respondent: 74.4).

The 2025 participation marks a significant step in the development of international legal advocacy in Azerbaijan and reflects the growing strength of its law schools on the global stage!
